At half-time on Saturday at Ibrox they were preparing to offer Manchester City a challenge match to find out which club truly was the Best of British.

In midweek West Ham were swotted aside by the magic of Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo, the Europa League semi-finalists had no answer to the Ibrox new boys.

It doesn’t take much to inflate egos at that club, with Spurs as visitors Antio Colak finally broke his scoring duck with a goal against the Londoners who will be joining Celtic in this season’s Champions League group stage draw.

At half time all was happy and glorious with the world but before the hour mark Harry Kane decided to get involved with the issues in defence badly exposed again.

For the equaliser Connor Goldson backed off until Kane was 15 yards from goal and within range to arrow a shot beyond Allan McGregor. Five minutes later the left side of the defence opened up to allow the Spurs skipper more shooting practise as Tottenham took the lead.

New signing Ben Davies failed to make the matchday squad leaving van Bronckhorst trying to work out whether John Souttar, Nicky Kranjcar or James Sands was the best partner for Goldson with 10 days to go before the Champions League qualifier away to Union SG of Belgium.
