Not many people in football enjoy the sound of their own voice and the media spotlight more than David Martindale.

With Livingston FC virtually unable to drum up any interest even within their own town the visit of the big two Glasgow clubs and the Sky Sports cameras gives the club manager the chance to project his home grown charm.

Yesterday’s opening day defeat was greeted with a shrug of the shoulders, an on-pitch hug for Scott Arfield and name-dropping post match interviews. The only surprise was that he didn’t wish his opponents good luck in Belgium on Tuesday and in the season ahead.

Strangely Martindale, who was the subject of a £34,000 Proceeds of Crime charge in 2018, chose not to bring up the mystifying incident in the 80th minute when Don Robertson denied the home side an equaliser.

Back in March the Livingston boss was in a very different mode as he discussed a defeat from Celtic. A disputed throw-in and a disputed bye-kick/corner were brought up but of course he wasn’t wanting to use them as excuses.

On September 10 wee Davie gets to take his side to Celtic Park with the match played on a grass pitch.

Absolute DOB don’t really expect anything from this drug dealer, said before season started Sevco are playing unbelievable and didn’t hold out much hope for yesterday’s game, unfortunately when they play us and moans about some mistake that changed game Don’t expect clowns who interview him to ask why he never moaned about incidents against Huns

Honestly! That’s hard to watch. Totally cringeworthy. A wee boy in awe of his heroes. No in-depth analysis of penalty not given or disallowed goal. Sweep, sweep. The man is pathetic. He could fill Jimmy Calderwood’s boots at any team he manages. He is a prime example of everything wrong with Scottish football. If you were on the Livi board or a real Livi fan, you should be ripping at that. To be fair, the guy even sounds like a dedicated follower on rankers. As articulate as a shell suit Ned.

You could not make it up a drug pusher or dealer managing a team in the top flight of the SPFL need I say anymore. Pablo Martindale.
