‘Wee Scotty’ and ‘Tav does what Tav does’- the two faces of Livingston boss David Martindale

Not many people in football enjoy the sound of their own voice and the media spotlight more than David Martindale.

With Livingston FC virtually unable to drum up any interest even within their own town the visit of the big two Glasgow clubs and the Sky Sports cameras gives the club manager the chance to project his home grown charm.

Yesterday’s opening day defeat was greeted with a shrug of the shoulders, an on-pitch hug for Scott Arfield and name-dropping post match interviews. The only surprise was that he didn’t wish his opponents good luck in Belgium on Tuesday and in the season ahead.

Strangely Martindale, who was the subject of a £34,000 Proceeds of Crime charge in 2018, chose not to bring up the mystifying incident in the 80th minute when Don Robertson denied the home side an equaliser.

Back in March the Livingston boss was in a very different mode as he discussed a defeat from Celtic. A disputed throw-in and a disputed bye-kick/corner were brought up but of course he wasn’t wanting to use them as excuses.

On September 10 wee Davie gets to take his side to Celtic Park with the match played on a grass pitch.
