Image for Alexandro Bernabei rumours are confirmed

Alexandro Bernabei’s Celtic career has got off to a bad start after he was arrested in the the early hours of Monday morning in Glasgow.

From mid-morning there were claims across social media that the Argentinian had been involved in a city centre incident.

The defender signed for Celtic on June 30 but after three matches he has yet to get off the substitute bench and now faces some difficult conversations with Ange Postecoglou.

Bernabei is the only new face that Celtic have paid money for this summer but after stressing the importance of signing the right characters for his squad the new signing from Argentina has made that stance look dubious.

This afternoon the Daily Record reported:

Celtic star Alexandro Bernabei has been arrested following an incident in Glasgow city centre. The 21-year-old was taken into custody in the early hours of Monday morning.

Police refused to confirm details of the incident amid claims the left-back had been arrested for an alleged drink-driving offence. It has also been alleged he was involved in a breach of the peace bust-up.

Bernabei – a £3.75m summer signing – was taken to Stewart Street police station, sources claimed. The arrest came just hours after Celtic beat Kilmarnock 5-0 at Rugby Park where he was an unused substitute.

The former Lanus player was released from custody on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “A 21-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of this morning, Monday, August 15 in Glasgow City Centre. Enquiries are ongoing.”

There is a lot of claim and allegations in that report but arriving on a new continent at the age of 21 it isn’t the right impression to give off.

There may be some perfectly reasonable explanation for what happened but on two levels it causes Postecoglou problems.

On one level his judgement is being questioned, on another there could be a greater and unwanted spotlight on Bernabei should he make first team appearances with Greg Taylor the only recognised left -back currently at the club.

Can’t agree with the “makes the stance look dubious ” bit Joe.You have a squad of 20 odd guys ,most in their 20s with money to burn.It would take a minor miracle for them all to behave as we would wish all of the time.Players need to take responsibility too,we can’t put this on Ange.Hopefully be a one off anyway.

Editor: Nothing is 100%, Ange puts great emphasis on character, the right type of person. Either he has misjudged Bernabei or he has been badly let down by a recent signing.

Calmac got done with drink driving, after that the he knuckled down and never looked back hopefully he’ll do the same.

he’s young and about to learn a lesson about the racist, bigoted, backwater shithole and their orange press/establishment. He will either become stronger or be gone ! ..I hope it’s the former !!!
Even if someone had previous, Celtic have always given a Lhad a break ! ….Dixie, Johnny-D, Jinky, George Connolly, etc, they were all human outside of football and Celtic had something that’s missing in football these days, compassion and empathy. Hopefully they will have it through the giant of a man now managing them.

So while the Glasgow Police has got a Celtic player (Allegedly) on a drink driving charge.
How are they getting on with charging person or persons unknown who hit our Physio with a bottle.
Or whoever smashed a bottle which broke into pieces and landed in the penalty area of JH which was ok when Alan McGreg went off at half time.
Cameras everywhere, maybe they were turned off that day? Surely not, some one nos something

If its an Indictment and convicted ,he could lose his job but sounds more it’d be a summery,,learn his lesson and move one,,but restrict his movements or get him mentored while socialising especially in Glasgow

Very negative reporting from a so called Celtic supporting blogger. Shame on you. He’s a young man who’s made a big mistake. You seem to want to make headline news out of this to play to the other side . Not the celtic way.
