Benfica Youth just can’t get over Jota’s exit

There seems to be a real mix of regret and delight from Benfica fans over Jota.

Regret that a highly rated player from within their own ranks has moved elsewhere but pleasure that he now has the platform to kick on from the undoubted promise and potential of the teenager.

Last season as Benfica Youth looked on from afar there was always the prospect that Jota could return and pick up where he left off in Lisbon.

That hope was killed off in the summer, on July 1 after a tantalising world tour Jota put Celtic fans out of their misery by signing a permanent deal. In Lisbon the reaction was different.

He may have been wasteful at times but yesterday’s goal demonstrated the difference that a £6m signing can make.

Watching from afar is Benfica Youth, a 30% sell on clause doesn’t look like much in the way of compensation as they keep tabs on Jota kicking on as they had always hoped for- in a red shirt.
