Burnley have announced the signing of Frankie Deane.
The central midfielder was a regular in the Celtic B squad last season that finished in joint second place in the Lowland League.
Contract details at this level are usually vague but after a Tweet from the player’s Dad Burnley have announced that Deane will be part of their u-21 squad for the new season.
Speaking to the Burnley website the 17-year-old said:
It’s a massive pleasure for me to be joining Burnley, this is a big Club and one which I’m proud to now be a part of.
Having spent the last month or so in and around the place, I’m just looking forward to getting going now, and having a good season.
While Deane prepares himself for a new challenge his former Celtic team-mates are reflecting on Saturday’s 4-1 win away to Gretna 2008.
Stephen McManus can field players aged under 20 but the squad involved in the Lowland League will be very close to those involved in the u-19 UEFA Youth League which starts next month, mirroring Celtic’s Champions League fixtures.
On Sunday Celtic’s B team play Hearts B in the Lowland League before hosting Livingston B in the SPFL Trust Trophy.
Burnley Football Club are pleased to confirm the signing of central midfielder Frankie Deane, who has penned a one-year professional deal with the Club following his departure from Scottish champions Celtic earlier this summer.
