Celtic’s Champions League clash away to Shakhtar Donetsk is fast heading towards sell-out status.

The match has been switched to Warsaw but it seems that the Ukrainian champions won’t be short of support with millions fleeing across the Border since the Russian invasion in February.

With tickets in short supply for the match with Real Madrid on November 2 the September 14 clash looks more attractive to fans hoping for a ‘trip’ but it looks like they will have to move fast if they are to secure a ticket.

The Sun reports:

The stadium will have a capacity of 25,000 for the Champions League ties and with Poland not having a representative in the tournament group stages, Shakhtar were stunned to discover 18,000 of the briefs were immediately snapped up.

Shakhtar’s Ukrainian international defender Valeriy Bondar said: “I was amazed when I heard about the ticket sales. I am delighted with the buzz we have created in Poland. We all are.

“Honestly, none of us thought that tickets would be sold so quickly. Especially at this difficult moment, support in Poland will be extremely important to us.

“We will do everything to please both our fans and the Polish people too. We beat Real Madrid two years ago and we hope we can do it again. But the strength of the group is very high. All our opponents are very good.”

UEFA rules stipulate that away clubs are given 5% of the stadium capacity which would result in just 1,250 tickets for Celtic fans.

With the Ukraine league just resuming last week in front of empty stadiums Shakhtar will be something of an unknown quantity on the back of their opening match away to RB Leipzig.

Celtic have only won two matches away from home in the history of the Champions League with the match in Warsaw looking the most winable of the matches in this seasons group.
