Celtic are reported to be courting Marseille striker Bamba Dieng.

The claim comes from the Daily Record after translating through a French website.

Dieng’s £8m price tag would almost certainly put him out of Celtic’s price range while the presence of Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis looks like a very obvious restriction on playing time.

The Record reports:

Celtic have reportedly expressed interest in Marseille striker Bamba Dieng. The 22-year-old forward has been linked with a Premier League move at the likes of Leeds United and Newcastle United this summer.

According to hommedumatch.fr , OM boss Igor Tudor does not see the Senegalese youngster as part of his plans this season and that Celtic have “courted” the Ligue 1 side over a potential transfer. Reports linking Dieng with Newcastle and Leeds, however, have named a price in the region of £8m, which would be a hefty outlay for the Premiership champions considering they’ve already spent big on recruiting Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Celtic may be looking at a third striker but whoever it is won’t have the pedigree of Dieng or also have clubs in the EPL showing interest.

Kyogo has started the first two SPFL Premiership matches with Giakoumakis coming off the bench, keeping both of those strikers happy with just one position up for grabs could be a test for Ange Postecoglou’s man management without bringing in a third option.

With three weeks left to run in the transfer window it is likely that there will be further reports and speculation over Celtic transfer targets but it is likely that Albian Ajeti will be moved on before any more incoming business is concluded.

Dieng is under contract with Marseilles until June 2024 according to Transfermarkt.
