The favoured old ‘Leeds set to swoop for Kent’ rumour has been given a fresh airing with two days left in the transfer window.

Under Marcelo Bielsa the then Championship club made an enquiry about the Liverpool winger before deciding that there was far better value elsewhere.

Almost every window the story resurfaces, last summer Leeds opted to spend £25m signing Dan James from Manchester United when Kent was available for less than half that figure.

After another underwhelming season that saw Kent bag two goals in the SPFL, less that Liel Abada scored in the second half at Dundee United, there has been virtually no interest in the former Liverpool starlet.

With a glut of transfer tales due for release The Mail claims that Jesse Marsch has inherited the Kent rumour:

Leeds United are considering whether to revive interest in Rangers winger Ryan Kent.

The 25-year-old has one year left on his contract and the Whites have been long-term admirers of the Englishman.

The Premier League club tried to buy Kent in 2020 but the player was happy to stay at Ibrox playing under then-manager Steven Gerrard.

Leeds also plotted a £15million move for Kent last year but were unsuccessful again in their bid to land the tricky winger.

Kent cost Rangers an initial £6.5m with add ons when he joined from Liverpool in 2019 while his current deal has a sell-on clause.

It is fair to say that Liverpool aren’t banking on any profit coming in from Kent, they did however bag a £4.5m cheque from selling Ben Davies who left Anfield still waiting to make his Liverpool debut.

Kent’s last SPFL goal was against St Johnstone in December- the night that Tony Ralston scored away to Ross County.

Ibrox transfer guru Ross Wilson is expecting to put in a frantic 48 hours trying to find fees for Kent, Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Jack and Filip Helander who are all free agents from January.
