Tonight Dundee United lost a football match, took a pasting in Holland. It can happen.
In the morning the club will still exist, pick themselves up and get on with life as they’ve been doing since 1909. Without fail.
It is a proud history, throughout it all they have paid their way to Scottish society, paying Income Tax and National Insurance on time, offering affordable salaries to players.
Not every Scottish club can say the same. A decade ago the past caught up on a club from Glasgow, in their hour of need fans walked away with their hands in their pockets. Offered a pittance through a CVA, Her Majesty said no and the club was put into liquidation, never to play again, never to suffer a 7-0 defeat to AZ Alkmaar.
If tonight I’ve brought a little happiness into the lives of those who lost their football club’s history then my work is done ?
