Fabrizio Romano has tweeted about clubs showing interest in Giorgos Giakoumakis. There is no suggestion of a bid being made or the player being unhappy after joining Celtic last August.

Despite that there are bound to be some concerns about an acknowledged ‘transfer guru’ flagging up the situation to more than 10.9m Twitter followers.

In that tweet the players first name isn’t spelt correctly.

With Kyogo Furuhashi out injured Giakoumakis stepped into the Celtic side in January to score 13 SPFL and three Scottish Cup goals as the hoops powered to the title with 15 wins and three draws in their final 18 matches.

This season Giakoumakis has came off the bench in Celtic’s first three matches, scoring at Kilmarnock on Sunday, with Ange Postecoglou at pains to emphasise the importance of having a full squad available for the challenges ahead.

Like most Celtic players the Greek striker could probably get paid more money elsewhere but working under Postecoglou among an ambitious young group of players with Champions League football coming up isn’t easy to replicate.

After a season with VVV Venlo, Celtic signed Giakoumakis on a five year contract on 31 August 2021.
