Kris Boyd has launched an incredible attack on Alfredo Morelos.

A month after resuming full training the Colombian ace has yet to start a first team match and failed to get off the bench during the Champions League Play Off against PSV Eindhoven.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst only used two of his five substitute options, resisting the option to throw on his club’s top European goalscorer to snatch a goal in the last 10 minutes.

During his playing career, Boyd, affectionately known as Monster Munch, barely played in a worthwhile European match but fears that Morelos must knuckle down in the gym if he is to force his way back into the van Bronckhorst’s side.

Discussing the elephant in the room, Boyd told Sun readers:

Everyone can see he’s a few pounds overweight. OK, he’s been out injured for a while but he’s been back training for weeks now. It’s as clear as day and Morelos has to do something about it — and quickly.

I’ve been there. My weight and size was something I was constantly criticised for throughout my career. But ask any manager I worked under and they’ll all tell you I trained hard every single day.

Morelos is very similar but until now he’s always relied on game time to trim down. But he can’t use that if he’s not getting back in the team.

He has to get his head down in training — and away from the club — and work like never before to get back to the level he was at when Gio first arrived. His match sharpness will only come from games.

But he can definitely get himself into better shape by grafting behind the scenes. There are no excuses otherwise.

Boyd retired at the end of the 2018/19 season after starting 10 SPFL matches and scoring just two goals in his final season for Kilmarnock.

In June 2014, at the age of 31 he moved to Sevco for a season in The Championship, starting 20 matches, coming off the bench 11 times and scoring three goals.

Boyd is expected to be on duty for Sky Sports for today’s match at Easter Road.

There is this common thread between the Rangers and plump strikers! They’ve had Boyd , now there’s Big Alfoodo, yet people tend to forget yer man Derek Johnston! There is a glutton ! I could tell you a story about BIG DJ ,in his pomp while still at Ibrox propping up a bar I was in in Spain many yonks ago. Maybe I will soon. All I wil say he was Burlington Bertie, it was ugly and it was helluva messy !

Boyd fat shaming anyone takes irony and hypocrisy to whole new levels. As for professionalism, remember how him and Barry F got booted out the Scotland squad for their childish stupidity? Maybe GvB wanted to get Morelos off the bench but he couldn’t get his ample frame/fat arse off it.

  • Davie says:

Can’t see chunky Alfredo getting much further game time after his red card today, straight back to form. That will be another million off his price tag to the no one’s interested in him teams.

Sitting on the bench the whole game is not being a “Waste of Space”. It is worse than that!
