Ally McCoist has described Jota as a genius.

The former Sunderland striker spreads himself far and wide across the media, co-commentating and sharing his opinions with TalkSPORT, BT Sport, Sky Sports and Premier Sports

Celtic were given top billing by Sky Sports at the weekend, taking the Super Sunday slot for flag day and their opening SPFL Premiership match against Aberdeen.

After Stephen Welsh’s third minute opening goal the floodgates didn’t open as Celtic fans expected but there was plenty on the build up and support play to catch the eye of any watching neutrals.

Picking up on his comments on TalkSPORT, the Daily Record reports McCoist saying:

Brilliant, he (Jota) is a player. I watched the Rangers game on Saturday, football’s amazing, it really is. Livingston score after about five minutes, defensively it’s a poor goal from Rangers and then they totally dominate. They get a goal that was probably just onside. They hit the post, they hit the bar, you’re thinking it’s going to be one of these days.

But they score two goals in three minutes and they win the game, which they should do. I was looking forward to watching Celtic yesterday, and I did, I enjoyed them, I must admit. Jota, you and I talk about him all the time, he’s a genius.

Ange Postecoglou was more measured in his comments about Jota, praising his goal and ability but admitting that the winger, and others, had been wasteful around goal.

With his move to Celtic now secured on a permanent basis there should be plenty more for hoops fans and McCoist to enjoy in the season ahead.
