Fashion Sakala’s hopes of escaping Ibrox to join Burnley have come to a sudden halt.

On Wednesday the Scottish Daily Express broke the news about a £3m bid for the Zambian ‘ace’, sadly by mid-afternoon on Thursday Southampton winger Nathan Tella had moved to Turf Moor on a season long loan.

With four new forwards signed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Sakala has slipped further down the pecking order at Ibrox despite being under contract until May 2025.

The former Oostende striker suffered the humiliation of going on as a substitute in the final of the Europa League in May only to get the hook for Aaron Ramsey with five minutes left in extra-time.

Sakala hasn’t played a competitive minute since then and looks increasingly unlikely to add to last season’s tally of 12 goals.
