Is it Mr Jota? Wee Davie Martindale justifies his matey Ibrox chat

Davie Martindale has justified using matey references to his Ibrox heroes. 

Last Saturday the Livingston boss was all smiles as he watched Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side start the new SPFL season with a 2-1 win at Livingston. 

The home side opened the scoring after six minutes but wee Scotty (Arfield) and Tav doing what Tav does inside three minutes in the second half ensured an away win. 

After the match the Livi boss, who was the subject of a Proceeds of Crime order in 2018, revelled in the media attention but speaking to The Sun he explained: 

We play each other that much and everybody knows each other that well that there’s always some kind of relationship. 

Scotty Arfield is from Livingston and we have mutual friends. He has a really good relationship with wee Cheb, our kitman. The two of them were at Falkirk together. 

Ever since we’ve been in the Premiership, Mr Arfield has come and visited us after games. He comes in the changing room to see Cheb. 

So is it Mr Tavernier or Mr Arfield? Is it Mr Jota? When Scott Brown was at Celtic I’d call him Broony. I don’t know what I’ve done wrong there, to be fair. 

Most managers refer to opponents by surname only, there is no requirement to add Mister or to shorten to nick-names unless you are a star struck fan-boy. 

On Tuesday night the Livingston boss is expected to be at Ibrox to watch the return leg with Union SG to prepare for his side’s SPFL match on October 22.
