Rob MacLean seeme to be thoroughly dismayed at being paid by BBC Scotland to watch and describe a brilliant goal from Jota at Kilmarnock yesterday.

Offered five goals, including two overhead kicks, Sky Sports News and Sky News selected the one from the Superstar from Portugal to showcase their roundup of Scottish football.

MacLean wasn’t convinced. Kilmarnock goalkeeper Sam Walker may have done slightly better but it takes a very firm hand to be able to get much of a deflection on a ferociously struck shot from somewhere between 25 and 30 yards.

Perhaps if the shot had been from Kyle Lafferty past Joe Hart the BBC commentator might have shown more enthusiasm.

Depending on how you look at the Jota goal which followed it, after a decent spell for Kilmarnock it was either wonder strike but it was much more surely goalkeeping and Sam Walker, he is 6 foot 6.

MacLean can also be heard on Reds TV (Aberdeen) and BT Sport coverage of UEFA matches.

In 2011 he anchored BBC Scotland’s coverage of the Scottish Cup Final with Pat Nevin as a pundit.
