Midfielder continues to be linked with Celtic

The Daily Record is continuing with its regular speculation that Mohammad Abu Fani could be on his way to joining Celtic.

Aaron Mooy’s arrival took the number of midfielders available to Ange Postecoglou up to seven with the departure of James McCarthy looking more likely than another arrival.

Fani has been reported to have an £800,000 price tag from Maccabi Haifa who are halfway through a Champions League third round qualifier with the comfort of a 4-0 first leg win away to Apollon of Cyprus.

The Record reports:

In terms of incomings, a midfield enforced appears to be high on the Celtic agenda and Mohammad Abu Fani is a name that hasn’t gone away. The Maccabi Haifa midfielder has been involved in an ongoing row with the Israeli club after being used sparingly during the Champions League qualifiers.

The club had aimed to keep the player at the club until they had guaranteed European football, but he has came off the bench in every Champions League qualifier so far. Reports in Israel state the player was left unhappy by the decision and had confronted Haifa president Uzi Mor after an offer from a European club had been knocked back

At the end of last season Ange Postecoglou stated that he wanted most of his transfer business completed in time for his squad going to their pre-season training camp in Austria.

That task seems to be mainly completed with two players now competing for every position to ensure that there is no repeat of the burn-out suffered last season.

With so many midfield options it would take an exceptional option to make in-roads into the current side with nothing in Fanni’s record to suggest that he could replace Matt O’Riley, David Turnbull, Reo Hatate or Callum McGregor.

    Too many cooks imo

There’s also nothing there to suggest that he or anyone else would be bought to replace anyone. No one is guaranteed a start. What I would say though, if there is any truth in Celtic being interested, then he should drop the attitude to his current employers, and let time and the natural proceedings take its course. Nobody wants anyone who easily takes a strop or brings a poor attitude and mood into the dressing room.
