Keith Lasley has poured cold water on claims that Dylan Reid is on his way to Celtic.

The St Mirren midfielder discussed a move last month after a fee was agreed between the clubs but opted to stay with the Paisley side.

Earlier this week a report in The Sun claimed that the move had been revived but Lasley has denied that there has been any developments.

The former Motherwell assistant is now the CEO with St Mirren and told the Daily Record:

There’s no update on Dylan just now. As we stand there’s nothing new to report on him. Dylan is one of a number of young players who have come through at the club that we want to keep and develop.

Alongside Kieran Offord, Murray Campbell and Fraser Taylor, he has got minutes for the first team already this season.

Hopefully he can see the pathway is there into our first team this season. As a club we want to produce our own players. It’s a big part of who we are.

Clubs rarely go public with their options in the closing hours of a transfer window.

Reid has the option to stay on and make the final push into the St Mirren first team or take a significant pay rise and try to make the breakthrough at Celtic.

Playing in the UEFA Youth League next week against Real Madrid is bound to be a big attraction but aside from those matches Reid would likely to be playing football in the Lowland League for the remainder of the season.

    Walk away from this Celtic.

don’t need any more midfielders either young or older…..a striker would be good but who wants to be 3rd choice in system we play

Ange made it clear he was being pursued in order to join our B team. He is not yet a regular in the St. Mirren team so he won’t be in Celtic’s first team squad for a good while yet.

Would have been better to keep Adam Montgomery at the Park. Either for experience in the UCL proper or the B Squad. I don’t get the Monty to St. Johnstone one.

  • the maister says:

Not unless they have no plans for the Bhoy in the future!
