Osaze Urhoghide seems to have found the perfect loan club at Oostende.

The defender spent the second half of last season with the Belgian club but for whatever reason they didn’t take up the option to make that move permanent.

That doesn’t mean that Oostende don’t rate Urhoghide who appeared to be third choice right-back at Celtic but preferred as a central defender in the Belgian league

Oostende coach Yves Vanderhaeghe told Walfoot:

He’s a bear. Defensively, he has a lot of qualities and the first thing a defender has to do is defend, of course. His physique makes a strong impression, sometimes perhaps too much. He’s a beast, a monster.

It is fair to say that Vanderhaeghe seems very pleased with the deal that his club has completed with Celtic.

Oostende lost their opening match of the season away to Eupen but bounced back, with Urhoghide in the team, to beat Mechelen 2-1 at the weekend.

At this stage it seems unlikely that Urhoghide will be returning to Celtic as a genuine first team contender but a strong season with Oostende could change that outlook.

In his only first team appearance for Celtic he impressed at right-back in the dead-rubber Europa League group match against Real Betis but with Tony Ralston deputising for Josip Juranovic it makes sense to get a run of games in central defence with Oostende.

Last season Urhoghide started seven matches for Oostende, building on the 16 appearances at Sheffield Wednesday before his move to Celtic in the summer of 2021.
