Jonathan Afolabi has joined the former Celtic colony at Bohemians.

Liam Burt was first to sign up for the Dublin club, Josh Kerr made the move last month with Afolabi signing up yesterday.

The Irish u-21 internationalist joined Celtic in 2019 but never made the first team squad for a competitive match with loan moves to Dunfermline, Dundee, Ayr and Airdrie doing little for his development.

Afolabi recently spent time on trial at Forest Green Rovers but on the Bohemians website manager Keith Long was pleased with the latest addition to his squad:

I would like to welcome Jonathan to the club. We felt it was important to bring another attacking option to add to what we have already in Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe and Ethon Varian.

At 22, Jonathan has good experience in Scotland from his loan periods from Celtic in addition to representing Ireland all the way up to U21 level. At 6ft 2in, he is a big powerful striker who can hopefully make a big impact at the club.

After spending last season on the fringes of the Ayr and Airdrie sides Afolabi will be looking to nail down some game time to help him realise the potential that first took him to Southampton then attracted an offer from Celtic.

Making the move in the opposite direction is Johnny Kenny who scored from the penalty spot in last night’s Lowland League fixture with Celtic B losing 2-1 to East Kilbride.
