Giovanni van Bronckhorst has warned his defenders to get their act together if they are to avoid Thursday nights in the Europa League.

Tuesday’s 2-2 draw at Ibrox handed the Champions League initiative to PSV Eindhoven who scored from two corners to silence Fortress Ibrox.

With Calvin Bassey sold, Leon Balogun released and Allan McGregor benched this season’s defence has the stamp of van Bronckhorst on it.

So far there appears to be no confidence and understanding between the goalkeeper and central defence with Connor ‘The Rock’ Goldson looking seriously vulnerable as PSV demonstrated.

Reviewing the goals lost to PSV, van Bronckhorst told The Sun:

The first one, we had the first contact and the header was going to the back of a player so the ball stayed in the area which was unlucky. The second one, we have to do everything to defend stronger and make sure we have the first contact.

Of course we need to improve it because next week again they will be dangerous at set-pieces, so it is definitely an area we need to improve. But we have to improve in every game.

It is unclear if Sick Note Souttar or Ben Davies will be in contention for Saturday’s match away to Hibs.
