Celtic fans were all over budget airlines this morning sparking a huge spike in the price of flights to Madrid.

Some might claim that it is profiteering or even a rip-off, the truth is that it is supply and demand with a sudden surge in interest on flights from Scotland to the Spanish capital.

In autumn flights from Edinburgh to Madrid normally cost around £70 but at 8.30 this morning the last few seats on the November 1 flight, the day before Celtic run out at the Santiago Bernabeu, had risen to £264- almost four times their usual value.

Fans wanting to fly out on the Sunday for an extra night in Madrid could book up for £165 with a few bargain flights on Saturday October 29 for £42.99 but they’d need to watch the away match at Livingston that day in a Spanish pub, or more likely an Irish bar in Madrid.

Flight prices at 8.30am, within an hour of fixtures circulating on Twitter.

Flights on Tuesday November 1, the day before the match have completely sold out.

Tickets are likely to be very scarce for the match in Madrid but after 21 years in the Champions League a visit to the Spanish capital is top of the bucket list for almost all Celtic supporters.
