One significant incident from the weekend seemed to escape the scrutiny of the experts on BBC Sportscene.

Last December a goal scored by Kyogo Furuhashi against Hearts sent the state broadcaster into meltdown with Crawford Allan breaking a holiday to explain to Radio Scotland that the goal might have been, or might not have been disallowed.

On Saturday at Ibrox Kevin Clancy was trusted to deliver the right result. In January Sky Sports were chosen to leak complaints about Clancy’s recent performance, the SFA obliged by dropping Clancy from matches involving van Bronckhorst’s side for four months.

Needing a morale boosting win between the games against Union SG, Alfredo Morelos was sent on for the last half hour.

With five minutes left to play the Colombian was on the goal line as one of his team-mates attacked the left-hand side of the Kilmarnock defence- CLEARLY OFFSIDE.

Fortunately Clancy and his assistant failed to notice an attacking player in an offside position inside the six yard box, the ball was played across goal, Morelos stepped back to score and put the game beyond Kilmarnock.

Clancy won’t have to wait four months for another match involving van Bronckhorst’s side.

The penalty thing is par for the course at this point. The “leniency” of Don Robertson is another and Celtic need to call the continual lack of protection for our players out publicly. You’d like to think out new chairman might strap on a pair and do something but given that person may well be Peter Lawwell I’m sure we’ll be fobbed off with the usual old “discussions are ongoing/work is being done behind the scenes” pish…

Might as well get the honest mistakes out the way while the goings good. VAR should help with these poor refereeing decisions.

    KC67,
Not so much ‘while the goings good ‘ , these ‘honest mistakes’
are now the starter course and VAR will be providing the ‘ main course’.

Who do you think will be adjudicating on VAR? Retired Scottish referees no doubt and
we won’t be allowed to know who or as Fat Sally once screamed ‘Who are these people?’

The SFA are allowing only a limited version of VAR into our game not to clear up instances of Refereeing bias, corruption or sheer incompetency. No they are bringing it in because they have to or they will never be allowed to host any of the glamour European Cup Final games or International tournaments.

Self interested access to the ‘Gravy Train’ so they can strut on the big stage while lining their own pockets.

Don’t expect to see Celtic benefitting to any great degree when VAR is introduced. It will be a case of the cameras not covering that particular viewpoint or losing the signal at crucial points in the game. They are past ‘Masters’ at deception and obfuscation.
