Ange has far more important matters to prepare for rather than selling tickets in Sydney- opinion

Between October 1 and November 12 Celtic face 13 matches including four Champions League ties, a schedule that no manager has ever tackled.

With 13 days between the trip to St Mirren and a home match with Motherwell Ange Postecoglou has time to take a little breather, take stock of the season to date and prepare fully for the hectic time coming up.

Time on the training ground will be limited as will family time at home with his wife and two sons.

With all of that in mind it seems wholly unnecessary to have the manager out in Australia effectively trying to sell tickets for two friendly matches in Sydney.

Ange’s Homecoming Tour is a great concept but surely the club has enough marketing and commercial executives to sell the matches in the Sydney Super Cup without sending their manager halfway round the world.

Postecoglou is without doubt a great marketing tool. A charismatic man, someone with an unusual back story who delivers meaningful answers in media conferences rather than predictable sound-bites.

Modern travel and communications mean that the Celtic boss will remain firmly in the loop but if a player opted on a few days in Australia during the 13 days between matches supporters would wonder what is going on.

After playing Motherwell, Celtic have RB Leipzig away then at home with a match against St Johnstone in-between. Fixtures on October 1, 5, 8 and 11. Playing Everton and Sydney FC is completely inconsequential in comparison to these matches.

Postecoglou’s time and energy should be spent solely on footballing matters, others can sell tickets, jerseys the brand and whatever else.

A clear lead at the top of the SPFL and a place in the last 16 of the Champions League should be the priority and would make every other aspect of the club easier to handle.

Even without European football it is unlikely that Frank Lampard will be popping up in Sydney over the next few days drumming up interest in two friendlies. Getting a second EPL win of the season will be taking up the attention of the Everton manager.
