Celtic appear to be on course to complete the signing of Oliver Abildgaard from Rubin Kazan.

Earlier this morning Fabrizo Romano tweeted that everything was in place for the Danish midfielder to become a Celtic player, following the path taken by Carl Starfelt and Sead Haksabanovic.

It appears that Abildgaard became an option when a move to Anderlecht fell through, with Aaron Mooy the only midfield addition this summer the arrival of the Danish midfielder gives Ange Postecoglou similar options in that area of the park as he has in the forward positions.

Numbers wise Celtic are shorter in midfield with Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton leaving in May but that appeared to be anticipated in January when Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi and Matt O’Riley are signed.

Shaw had an unsuccessful spell on loan at Motherwell last season with a return to England at League One level likely for what was technically Neil Lennon’s last signing.
