Barry Ferguson has accused some of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad of going AWOL.

Filip Helander and Kemar Roofe have yet to make an appearance this season with John Souttar out of sight since being substituted in the SPFL opener away to Livingston.

Tom Lawrence has missed the last couple of matches through injury but the reasons for Rabbi Matondo falling out of favour are unclear.

With a brutal run of fixtures coming up van Bronckhorst needs to be able to use as much of his squad as possible but in the Daily Record Ferguson doubts the commitment of some on those cluttering up the pay-roll:

Right now Rangers are in the trenches. They can’t afford to carry passengers in the heat of the battle. It’ll be interesting to hear what Gio says today at his pre-match press conference in terms of the fitness of a number of players who appear to have gone AWOL over the past couple of months.

Despite those injuries Ben Davies and Ridvan Yilmaz have only played in one SPFL match, the 4-0 win at home to St Johnstone in August.
