There was one massive breaking story coming out of UEFA today, so big that the Daily Record and the Scottish Sun were onto it straight away.

After a week of celebrating last week’s win in Eindhoven that apparently brought in £40m to the Ibrox coffers there hasn’t been a penny reinvested in the playing staff.

At lunchtime today Giovanni van Bronckhorst told the nodding dogs that he was happy with the squad that had spent around £13m of the money brought in from the sales of Nathan Patterson, Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey.

In mid afternoon the picture cleared up when UEFA announced that the Ibrox Tribute Act were being carefully monitored in terms of Financial Fair Play. No longer would a message from Andrew Dickson or Campbell Ogilvie to the SFA soothe things out.

Expenditure and the sources of funding will now be monitored by UEFA. The £23.5m losses in the year to 30 June 2021 will now have to be accounted for, repaid before a new striker or centre half can be bought in by the manager.

It is a big story but not big enough for BBC Scotland to cover- or perhaps the state broadcaster are afraid of the consequences of touching the story.

With Tom English, Kenny Mac, Alasdair Lament and Jane Lewis kitted out for Champions League specials (fortunately not to be televised) there is too much to be lost by the BBC if they were to highlight that there may be financial issues at Ibrox.

A seven year exclusion order was recently ended by a gutless surrender by BBC Scotland, Mikey Stewart won’t be allowed into Ibrox to keep the bears happy.

With a page full of slavering O** F*** coverage it seems that BBC Scotland are body-swerving the real story of how a 10-year-old Tribute Act bludgeoned their way into the Champions League at the expense of clubs that operate within the rules of the game.
