Reporters from the Guardian and Daily Mail tuned into social media coverage pf Celtic’s 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk tonight to find offence as the UK media wrapped itself in a blanket of patriotic sympathy.

As different media outlets try to outdo themselves in showing their support to the monarchy it seems that anyone not falling in line is immediately the subject of their anger and scrutiny.

While some clubs shamelessly wrap themselves up in patriotism it seems that anyone not following the media line is highlighted for abuse and criticism.

Ewan Murray is a long established critic of Celtic supporters. The Guardian’s golf correspondent was at Dens Park in May 1986 and has forever been scarred by the experience, at any opportunity he will set his golfing brief aside to criticise Celtic fans.

Richard Eden of the Daily Mail isn’t known for avidly following Scottish football but seeing a half chance tonight he has gone for staunch points as print sakes of his newspaper decline month by month, year by year.
