Daily Record tries to revive the Postecoglou to Brighton story

The Daily Record has turned again to the Postecoglou to Brighton story, quoting a Sunday Times article that they are unable to provide a link to.

With Graham Potter rapidly replacing Thomas Tuchel Chelsea there are now EPL managerial vacancies at Brighton and Bournemouth.

Postecoglou’s work at Celtic in terms of delivering success and attractive football is bound to attract interest but 15 months into the job and with the club involved in the Champions League it is quite a stretch to see the Australian pack up for Brighton who have not only lost their manager but a good chunk of their coaching staff.

Despite those circumstances and Chris Sutton dismissing the prospect of Postecoglou joining Brighton, this morning the Daily Record reports:

Graham Potter was unveiled as Thomas Tuchel’s replacement at Chelsea earlier this week with speculation touting the Celtic Park head coach as a potential successor at the Amex after his instant success in Glasgow’s east end. Reports earlier this week suggested that the Australian was unlikely to be interested in the English Premier League job, however The Sunday Times state that Brighton remain keen on Postecoglou.

It is reported that he remains under “serious consideration” as a replacement for Potter, with Postecoglou on a long-list of candidates Brighton are carrying out due diligence on. It is noted that Brighton “have been impressed by the feedback” on the 57-year-old due to his calmness off the pitch as well as his success on it, having lifted the Scottish Premiership title and Premier Sports Cup during his debut campaign with Celtic.

The Sunday Times link provided at 10am leads to the sports page on thetimes.co.uk without a story to back it up. There may be a story in the print edition of The Times but despite a quiet weekend it seems to be quite a stretch to revive the Postecoglou link that seemed to be a 24 hour wonder in midweek.

In February 2019 Brendan Rodgers quit Celtic for Leicester City in vastly different circumstances. His problems with the Celtic board had been highlighted for six months starting, in public at least, with the failure to sign John McGinn from Hibs.
