Giorgos Giakoumakis has been left out of the Greece squad for tonight’s Nations League qualifier against Northern Ireland.

There has been speculation and conflicting reports from the Greek cam over the last couple of days following reports of a leg injury.

Gus Poyet’s side have already topped their group with Giakoumakis not in the starting XI or among the 12 substitutes listed.

With the match effectively a dead-rubber there is little to be gained by playing anyone with an injury doubt but it will be tomorrow before Celtic get to assess the extent of any knock, or whether the former VVV Venlo striker is just rested.

Despite being joint top scorer in last season’s SPFL Premiership, Giakoumakis has yet to start a league match this season.

He has contributed three goals however, with his two starts coming in the League Cup away to Ross County and the Champions League opener against Real Madrid.
