Chris Sutton has sent on his apologies to Giorgos Giakoumakis.

Last week’s defeat at St Mirren is still being digested with a full week to go before the chance to get back to winning ways at home to Motherwell.

Ange Postecoglou’s decision to make six changes for the trip to Paisley was the biggest talking point but despite his impressive record in terms of performances and goals there was no place in the starting XI for Giakoumakis.

The Greek internationalist played 85 minutes of the Glasgow derby, started against Real Madrid but after Kyogo Furuhashi’s tough shift away to Shakhtar Donetsk the Japanese striker was in again from the start against St Mirren.

Discussing what went wrong in Paisley, Sutton told the Daily Record:

I have to say, I felt a bit sorry for Giorgis Giakoumakis not to get a start. With so many alterations, the Greek must have thought he’d get the nod. The game was already getting away from Celtic by the time he appeared.

With 13 matches between October 1 and November 12 there should be plenty of opportunities for Giakoumakis to add to his three goals to date- and start his first SPFL Premiership match.
