John Bennett has denied rumours that Douglas Park is looking to sell up and get out of Ibrox.

The Lanarkshire based businessman came to power with Dave King in March 2015, taking over as chairman five years later after King was forced to step away.

Despite hitting the jackpot by reaching the group stage of Champions League football there were no signings in August with supporters concerned that prize money wasn’t being reinvested.

Three heavy defeats on the bounce brought those concerns to the surface with vice-chairman Bennett forced into a club TV interview to dispel rumours of an exit.

I know Douglas Park as well as anyone can know Douglas Park, I consider him a friend as well as the chairman. Douglas isn’t a seller, I’m not a seller. I’ve recently increased my position above 5 per cent.

When the said American group did approach us, I actually took that as an opportunity to sound out most of our big investors to say ‘look, where are you on this? What do you think of this?’

They rightly said not only is there no harm in listening, and we do listen, we politely listen to a number of proposals, and that will happen again I’m sure.

It’s the right thing to do, from a fiduciary point of view, we gave quite a lot of time to that situation. We listened but what was very interesting from John Halstead to Julian Wolhardt, absolutely no interest in selling.

Park only owns 12.16% of the company shares, King has the biggest single shareholding with 15.13%, Bennett has 5.13% of the company shares.

One issue that no one in the MSM has gone near is the strange case of two companies chaired by Douglas Park in the Scottish courts and tribunals.
