Kenny Miller certainly created plenty of attention on Sunday morning when he claimed that Ryan Kent was on a par with Jota- and better than three other named Celtic wingers.

Hoops fans were generally amused by the claim, Kent’s performances and stats are a weekly talking point when it comes to step-overs but in terms of producing for the team no-one would put up any real argument to compare the former Liverpool and Benfica wingers.

Joining Celtic on the August Deadline Day, initially on loan, Jota contributed massively to Celtic’s title success with 13 goals across all competitions including three in the post split fixtures to help deliver the title.

In his fourth season at Ibrox Kent managed two goals in the SPFL plus a heavily deflected shot that went into the net away to Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League.

Despite the stats and over a year of watching the contribution of both players Keith Jackson was standing by Miller’s claim as the Daily Record asked their top reporters for their thoughts:

Kenny Miller reckons Ryan Kent is on a par with Jota and better than Celtic’s other wingers – do you agree?

KEITH JACKSON: In terms of ability, yes. Kent has got the lot. But Miller is right to question the winger’s productivity. Perhaps there wouldn’t be such a heavy onus on him if Rangers had recruited someone to do the same job on the other side of the pitch.

Already this season Jota has scored four times and picked up a Champions League Man of the Match award while his ‘rival’ across the city has been waiting since December to notch a goal in the SPFL.
