New signing Oliver Abildgaard has revealed that he already has a family connection to Celtic.

The Danish midfielder signed from Rubin Kazan has a granddad in Aberdeen who just happens to support Celtic!

With former Rubin team-mates Sead Haksabanovic and Carl Starfelt already at the club it shouldn’t take Abildgaard too long to settle in at his new club.

The deal is initially for one season but if everything goes to plan it is unlikely that the midfielder will be heading back to Russia next summer.

My granddad, he lives in Aberdeen and is a huge Celtic fan. Maybe that’s where it comes from. This is a day I’ve been very much looking forward to ever since I heard the possibility of coming here.

Later he added:

I’ve been following the highlights recently, ever since I heard about the interest, and I’ve also been keeping my eye on Carl Starfelt as well ever since he moved here a year ago.

He’s been amazed by the club ever since he came here, and the life in Glasgow as well. He’s enjoying it very much and he’s only told me good things about it.

Celtic will now assess the fitness of their ninth summer signing, without any game time since February it is difficult to see him being involved in any of the five matches before the September international break.

From October until the World Cup the fixtures are non-stop, from December 17 away to Aberdeen the schedule is relentless with Ange Postecoglou arming his squad up as strongly as possible with two options in every position.
