Ange Postecoglou has brushed aside rumours that he could become the next Brighton manager.
Since Graham Potter left for Chelsea last week there has been fairly regular speculation linking the Celtic boss with the vacancy on the south coast.
Up until the age of 55 managing in Europe looked like a doomed ambition for the former Australian internation boss.
Despite an impressive mix of experience and success it seemed that managing Yokohama Marinos in the J-League was the extent of his travel but as Celtic stumbled around managerless a move to Scotland opened up.
The Celtic that Postecoglou inherited 15 months ago is unrecognisable from the club going into Champions League action tonight in Poland with his success no longer a secret.
Celtic fans can brace themselves for regular speculation linking their manager with a move to England but it isn’t an issue that is keeping the Australian awake at night.
Responding to the Brighton speculation, Postecoglou told The Sun:
It’s not really relevant in my world or in my space. For my whole career, I have just been focused on being as successful as I can be for the club I represent.
If I do that, everything else takes care of itself because things change pretty quickly in football.
If I’m not successful here, it won’t be other options that open up for me, it’ll be this one that closes
Tellingly Postecoglou never said that it was flattering to be linked with a job in England, throughout his time at Celtic there hasn’t been any suggestion that it was a stepping stone to bigger and better things elsewhere.
Like all recent Celtic bosses, Postecoglou is on a rolling 12 month contract that is likely to be heavily incentivised with Champions League football likely to add £30-40m to turnover for this season.
