‘Stop this immediately’ ‘fed up being a tourist attraction’ ‘this is a total riddy’ Celtic twitter under fire over own goal

Celtic’s Twitter account was under fire last night after applauding Luka Modric as a class act.

Without doubt that is factually correct but there is a time for everything. Drooling over an opposition goalscorer like an awe-struck autograph hunter isn’t what fans expect from their club.

Seeing a world class player live in action is something to enjoy, for more than 45 minutes the Croatian found Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley very tough opponents.

During a five minute spell Real Madrid scored twice, both of them ‘Celtic style’ goals with fast breaking played finished off with a deadly touch in front of goal.

With a 3-0 defeat, no matter the circumstances or mitigating factors, the last thing that supporters want to know about is their club hoping for reflected respect from some of Modric’s 3.2m Twitter followers- around four times more than Celtic have.
