TalkSPORT pundit calls out Jim White over Demolition Derby

Trevor Sinclair ‘broke the news’ on TalkSPORT this morning that Celtic won the weekend Glasgow derby.

Host Jim White and media pal Graeme Souness appeared to have put an embargo on the result as they presented their Monday morning show.

The former STV and Sky Sports anchorman has an extensive contact book but it seemed that any coverage of the biggest domestic fixture in Scotland was off the script as TalkSPORT reviewed the weekend action.

Manchester United beating Arsenal and the Merseyside derby are certainly big issues but the stunning success for Ange Postecoglou’s side seemed inconvenient to Whyte and Souness.

The final 18 months of Steven Gerrard’s time in Glasgow seemed to be regularly discussed but covering Sinclair’s appearance this morning Football Scotland reports:

Former England and Man City winger Sinclair, 49, is a huge Hoops fan and called out host White for the lack of coverage as he appeared as a guest on this morning’s show. Building up to tonight’s Champions League showdown with Real Madrid at Parkhead, White kicked off Tuesday’s programme by saying: “I mean talk about a special fixture. This is going to be sensational.”

Sinclair wasted no time reminding his colleague of the weekend demolition, though, responding: “Well especially after what happened at the weekend against Rangers, dominating 4-0.”

After White jokingly claimed he had forgotten about the score, Sinclair said: “Reliable sources have told me that you didn’t speak about it very much at all yesterday, so I just wanted to big up Celtic for their performance.”

Fellow pundit Jordan agreed and pointed out: “I was very happy to talk about it for some time, because I had forecast that Celtic will give them a doing, much to the ridicule and parody of Mr Souness and White. We did about three minutes of it. I was all motivated and focused, but not a whisper.”

However, White insisted their planned discussion was interrupted by the announcement of Liz Truss as Prime Minister.

He explained: “I’ll tell you what happened. We were about to get into it, in more in-depth if you like, then his mob announced Liz Truss and we couldn’t shut him up. And that was the problem. Simon went on at length to tell us about Liz Truss’ qualities, and about four seconds later we all spoke about Celtic and Rangers again…”

Meanwhile, Sinclair couldn’t hide his excitement ahead of tonight’s mouthwatering clash with Real Madrid.

He added: “Ange has done an unbelievable job there. Winning the league last year and then the Champions League tonight against the defending champions. What a great time to be a Celtic fan.”

The 12.30 announcement of the new leader of the Conservative Party was known well in advance, every news outlet in the UK had it slotted into their schedule days in advance.

Celtic’s match with Real Madrid tonight looks to be the biggest fixture in the UK tonight, generating more interest than Sevilla v Manchester City or Dinamo Zagreb v Chelsea.
