The Champions League dream has turned into a nightmare for Ally McCoist.

Two weeks ago there was excitement over how Giovanni van Bronckhorst would fare in the Champions League after reaching the final of the Europa League.

Last night in Amsterdam seven of the side that lost to Eintracht were in the starting line up, in contrast Ajax sold seven of their starters over the summer as they followed manager Erik Ten Hag out the door.

On Saturday Celtic again turned over van Bronckhorst with a similar display to the 3-0 win in February. This time they scored four with McCoist watching from the commentary box.

Worried bears consoled themselves knowing how wonderful their form had been in Europe, two weeks ago they won 1-0 away to PSV Eindhoven as the home goalkeeper repeated his nightmare performance at Ibrox.

It didn’t go well last night in Amsterdam, there is no longer any excuses for van Bonckhorst- even Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha avoided back to back 4-0 defeats.

McCoist could barely hold back on BT Sport, picking up on his comments the Daily Record reports him saying:

The dream turned into a nightmare. Anything that could have gone wrong did go wrong. There’s no spirit. It doesn’t look like there’s any fight. There’s a lack of belief or no belief at all. Two of the three first goals were horrendous.

We said Saturday at Celtic Park was a bad day at the office. This was equally as bad. It’s really concerning, maybe even more so because a lot of Rangers fans were looking for a reaction to Saturday and they didn’t get it

There was something different about McCoist’s appearance last night, his hair seems to be growing back in again, the whiskers have been removed with his features looking a little trimmer. Jim White is a close friend of the cheeky chappy.
