Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been given an extra day to prepare for the Champions League tie with Napoli- with no away fans allowed inside Ibrox.

Since the events of Thursday the Ibrox club have been lobbying to get the game rescheduled but a 24 hour delay is hardly likely to turn James Tavernier and John Lundstram into top level players.

The ban on away fans seems very unfair on Napoli supporters but Celtic won at Ibrox in April with just 800 fans inside the stadium.

Just after 1pm today Napoli announced:

Following the disposition of Uefa just communicated, the Glasgow Rangers-Napoli Champions League match scheduled for Tuesday 13 September at 21:00 has been postponed to Wednesday 14 September at 21:00 CET.

The postponement of the meeting is due to the limitations of the English Police Department and the organization of the events in progress for the national mourning following the death of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Please note that the Uefa Youth League match between the two clubs will also be postponed to Wednesday 14 September at 15:00 CET.

Uefa also announces that the trip has been forbidden by the UK government to visiting fans and that therefore SSC Napoli will refund the tickets purchased in a manner that will be communicated later.

Uefa and the club invite their supporters not to go to the scheduled match, with or without access title, and let it be known that the guest sector will be closed for Scottish supporters in the return match scheduled in Naples on October 26th.

Putting the match back 24 hours will also disrupt the plans of many loyal bears who will have train, flight and hotel booking based around a Tuesday match for their club’s first ever home Champions League match.

It is believed that 5,000 bears have booked up independent travel for the Napoli away match but that money has now been wasted following Thursday’s events.
