John Souttar ad Filip Helander are out of action until after the World Cup break.

The defensive duo have managed one appearance between them so far this season and will be posted missing for the 13 matches between tomorrow and November 12.

Central defence has been a big problem for van Bronckhorst who has been forced to use midfielders James Sands and John Lundstram in defence alongside Connor Goldson.

Covering today’s media conference, Radio Clyde reports:

Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed John Souttar won’t be fit until after the World Cup break.

The defender has featured just once for the club since joining on a pre-contract deal from Hearts in the summer.

Souttar started July’s 2-1 win away to Livingston but was substituted in the second half of the game.

Ibrox boss van Bronckhorst has now revealed the Scotland international required an operation and will face an extended spell on the sidelines.

Swedish centre-back Filip Helander will also be kept out until the World Cup with an injury.

Both players have notorious injury records, leaving Leon King and Ben Davies as the only recognised central defenders at the club to team up with Goldson.

The Sands experiment looks to be over after he was sent off against Napoli with that red card coming on the back of his involvement in the 4-0 defeats against Celtic and Ajax.
