Another dubious offside decision emerges from Tynecastle

There were no shortage of talking points and controversial decisions at Tynecastle yesterday, virtually destroying the claim that technology would lead to more cut and dried decision thanks to the appliance of science.

A late ‘goal’ from Liel Abada was disallowed for offside without any sighting of the VAR line that would prove that the Celtic forward was offside. Sky Sports and BBC Sportscene were unable to show the line that VAR official Steven McLean used to make that decision.

Deep, deep into stoppage time Celtic were under the cosh as Hearts shelled a number of balls into the penalty box in search of an equaliser..

It was indicated that five minutes of time would be added on, beyond that there was a very strange offside call from David Roome.

In February 2021 the assistant referee returned a positive test after a match in Greece with his close friend Bobby Madden, Roome is a very experienced assistant referee.

As Joe Hart launches the ball forward there appears to be two Hearts defenders lying deep to prevent a quick Celtic attack. Bizarrely Roome raises his flag, free kick to Hearts and they get one more chance to launch the ball nack into the penalty box, chasing an equaliser.
