BBC Statto can’t bear to inform listers of Celtic’s 7-1 glory day
Liam McLeod, Mr Statto of BBC Scotland attempted to justify his highly selective use of FACTS! On the back of watching the Ibrox Tribute Act get hammered 7-1 by Liverpool.
McLeod is completely incapable of describing tactics or how play is developing in a match but if you want to know how many times Arbroath have won away from home on a Tuesday night in October over the last 100 years he is most certainly your man.
Stitching together the most obscure facts gets him through commentating on any match while viewers or listeners try to make up their own mind about how a match develops.
Bizarrely the BBC stato seems unaware of the biggest scoreline in a domestic cup final, a glorious sunny afternoon 65 years ago that is still celebrated in song till this day although it is unlikely that ‘Oh Hampden In The Sun’ has been heard very often in the studios of BBC Scotland.
On Wednesday night McLeod managed the ultimate in statistical gymnastics when he merged together the two football clubs from Ibrox but body-swerved the 7-1 defeat that the old club suffered against Celtic in the 1957 League Cup Final.
Sharing the grief of the licence payers as Liverpool toyed with the Tribute Act required the upmost diplomacy, informing traumatised bears that their previous club had also been in an eight goal thriller 65 years ago would have been too close to the truth from the highly conflicted state broadcaster.
Embarrassing that guy who bores everyone to death every single game with his constant stats wasn’t aware of the British record scoreline in a cup final.

Spot on with the West Brit. But, McLeod mentioned Huns 6-0 defeat in Madrid, 5-0 at CP, as their worst previous defeats. He purposely left out 7-1 in 1957. Then continued, as for Ibrokes…
