Calvin Bassey playing football hurts my eyes- former Ajax star can’t hold back

Wim Kieft is the latest former Ajax star to question the football ability of Calvin Bassey.

The defender has had a nightmare time since leaving Ibrox, without the protection of Scottish referees his limitations have been cruelly exposed.

Things came to a height when Napoli hammered Ajax 6-1 in the Johan Cruyff Arena. Yesterday Ajax were cruising to a 3-0 win away to Volendam when they lost goals in the 74th and 86th minutes but Danny Klaassen bailed them out with a 96th minute goal.

Wednesday’s match away to Napoli could be something of a nightmare with Kieft, who played for Ajax between 1979 and 1983 before moving to Italy, not holding back with his views on the £18m summer signing from Ibrox.

The Sun reports the former Ajax striker saying:

Calvin Bassey playing football hurts my eyes. Apart from his lack of quality on the ball, he is above all very rash. Physically, he is fine, but Ajax cannot play the dominant game they like with him in the team.

It seems that Ajax fell for the hype from the Daily Record and BBC Scotland rather than scouting the player properly.
