Despite being able to call on five decades of experience Hugh Keevins still struggles to contain his excitement over a set-back for Celtic.

Last December he had the League Cup bound for Easter Road as soon as Paul Hanlon had opened the scoring- within 60 seconds Kyogo Furuhashi had equalised with a makeshift Celtic side on route to their first trophy under Ange Postecoglou. After one domestic match of last season the Daily Record columnist came up with the wacky acronym of Absolutely Not Good Enough to describe the Australian.

It was a similar scenario yesterday with the venue switching to Perth, as soon as Alex Mitchell put the ball in the Celtic net Keevins was off round the Radio Clyde studio high-fiving with his colleagues:

Gordon Duncan: There is an equaliser in Perth, you called it Hugh Keevins, five minutes added on, two to go and Mitchell has poked the ball beneath Joe Jart and that could be a huge moment in the Scottish Premiership season.

HK: Celtic’s season is imploding. This will be one win in six now for Celtic and they have only themselves to blame. They had all manner of chances, they can’t score at one end and they can’t defend at the other end and that’s a lethal cocktail.

And er they are all over the place there, and it is no more than St Johnstone deserve, Celtic have been living on their nerves, and now the nervous system has collapsed, all over Ibrox there will be people doing cartwheels.

Soon afterwards…

GD: And Celtic have gone up the other end and snatched it, Giorgos Giakoumakis, the fans behind that goal go crazy in Perth. It was down the left hand side, Drey Wright was injured, he couldn’t match the runner, Bernabei got there, flashed one across and there was Giorgios Giakoumakis, 95 gone- St Johnstone 1 Celtic 2

HK Can I ask you which pundit predicted that scoreline at 12.30?

GORDON DALZIEL: You are actually saying two seconds ago that St Johnstine

HK But I could see the equaliser coming and I did say Celtic would win 2-1 so I am claiming the raffle prize.

Throughout their history Celtic have been noted for their refusal to accept defeat or even a draw with Keevins witnessing many stunning comebacks.

Last season Tony Ralston and Liel Abada found last gasp winners for Celtic sides that had been reduced to 10 men, during their Centenary Season there were late winners from Mark McGhee and Frank McAvennie in the Scottish Cup to secure the double for Billy McNeill’s side.
