Chris Sutton’s three word reaction to vital Celtic victory

Chris Sutton sees something of his younger self in Giorgos Giakoumakis.

The Greek striker was picked to start his first SPFL match of the season today, suffered a glut of punishment from the St Johnstone defence with little sign of protection then popped up in the 94th minute to deliver a priceless winner.

An afternoon of frustration for Celtic looked like ending with a single point when Alex Mitchell equalised for the home side in the third minute of stoppage time.

Incredibly, 70 seconds later Giakoumakis delivered the perfect response when he got on the end of a brilliant cross from Alexandro Bernabei to score Celtic’s second goal. The top was off, he raced into the away support to celebrate and picked up a yellow card on his way back for the restart.

In truth Giakoumakis bailed out some of his misfiring team-mates with Liel Abada and Daizen Maeda especially wasteful around goal.

It took an own goal from Andy Considine to put Celtic in front but with ‘Big George’ in the side there is no such thing as a lost cause- even if it is deep into injury time, away from home on the rebound from a Champions League defeat.
