Lee Johnston has admitted that his Hibs side could have lost 10 goals to Celtic on Saturday.

Some wasteful finishing and curious refereeing decisions by Steven McLean ensured that the hoops didn’t hit double figures or match their 9-0 rout of Dundee United earlier this season.

That result cost Jack Ross his job but Johnson has the task of picking his side up and going again with St Johnston to be faced on Friday night.

During his playing career the current Hibs boss had spells with Hearts and Kilmarnock but fears that the Easter Road squad are pre-programmed to fail when they come up against the top two clubs from Glasgow.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Johnson admitted:

Let’s not take away from Celtic – who have fantastic individual brilliance and they’re a fantastic team – but we’re not 6-1 away. On Saturday we were, and it could have been 10. That’s the bit that I’m now curious about. I was angry after the game because I felt we let everyone down but I’m now very curious.

We can start this psychological programme with our young pups, like 16, all the way through. We whitewashed Rangers in the academy over the weekend. There you go, that’s a good start. Our Under-18s won the league last year, that’s a good start.

The Hibs boss does seem to enjoy the sound of his own voice, saying too much in public when many issues should be dealt with in the dressing room and on the training ground.

During the same interview he admitted that he had spoken with psychologists following Saturday’s match. It seems that deflection is an art that he specialises in.
