Crystal Palace are the latest club ‘eyeing a big money move’ for Matt O’Riley.

The midfielder has made a huge impact on Celtic since his January move from MK Dons and is in contention for a place in Denmark’s World Cup squad.

Today’s story appears in The Sun under the name of John Shields, a fictitious reporter whose by-line is used for a variety of reasons.

O’Riley is under contract until the summer of 2026 but if he continues his current rate of improvement there will soon be a time when Celtic and the player are given an offer that they have to discuss.

The Sun reports:

CRYSTAL PALACE are eyeing a big-money move for Celtic star Matt O’Riley. SunSport can reveal the Eagles’ top scout Dougie Freedman watched the midfielder against RB Leipzig in midweek.

Former Fulham kid O’Riley has gone under the radar in his career, with Celtic plucking him from MK Dons in January.

The Hoops paid just £1.5million for the 21-year-old, but he is now being eyed by a host of Premier League clubs. Shrewd judges think his all-round talent would be suited to the English top flight.

O’Riley took the long term view that dropping down to MK Dons from Fulham for regular first team football was in his best interests, tellingly his agents inserted a £1.5m get-out clause which Celtic were happy to match in January.

There could be a similar clause in his Celtic contract but there is a clear bond and respect between the midfielder and Ange Postecoglou who has provided the former England youth internationalist with the platform his ability deserves.
