Cameron Carter-Vickers’ fitness is being checked on a day-to-day basis with Ange Postecoglou ruling out a medium term absence.

The defender was missing from the team sheet against St Mirren on September 18 and will sit out today’s visit from Motherwell.

Carter-Vickers had played every minute of every SPFL Premiership match this season until the Paisley fixture with Celtic looking a different proposition without the former Spurs defender.

During the international break injuries became the big topic for Celtic fans to monitor, speaking to the Daily Record Postecoglou put some detail on how his squad is shaping up:

Giakoumakis has pulled up a bit sore. He will miss the Motherwell game, but I’m confident after that he shouldn’t be too far away. All of the other ones like Carl and Cameron were injured prior to the international break, and they will still be missing for Motherwell. Carl is still probably a couple of weeks away.

Cameron though is a day-to-day proposition, it’s certainly not something that will keep him out long or even medium term. At the moment, he is doing individual training, so we’ll see how he is after the weekend and then make our decision about RB Leipzig in midweek.

The Leipzig away match is followed by St Johnstone away and the return match against the German club in a seven day spell as the pre-World Cup schedule gets underway.

Stephen Welsh and Moritz Jenz are likely to play in central defence today with Bosun Lawal spotted training with the first team during the week.
