Kevin Clancy will referee Celtic for the second time this season when he takes charge of Saturday’s trip to St Johnstone in the SPFL.

The Glasgow based referee seemed to upset Hearts boss Robbie Neilson earlier in the season with two late red cards as he watched his side lose 2-0 against the champions.

With Bobby Madden out of the picture Clancy, Nick Walsh and Don Robertson will each have refereed two of Celtic’s first nine matches, indicating the lack of depth in the current refereeing pool. Clancy has also refereed two matches at Ibrox this season.

Last season Celtic dropped points in nine fixtures, Clancy was in charge for the away defeat at Ibrox in August, the home draw with Dundee United the following month and the away draw against Hibs in February.

Saturday’s 12.30 kick off at McDiarmid Park gives Celtic the chance to restore a five point lead for a couple of hours, last season in their only visit to St Johnstone they won 3-1 in a festive fixture played in front of just 500 supporters.

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Clancy is terrified of Sevco and Ibrox and cheated Dundee United out of one and possibly three points at that bastion of bigotry a few weeks ago… probably didn’t want to be seen giving anything against Sevco because of his ‘catholic-y’ sounding name –

Contrast that to Beaton with his non ‘catholic-y’ name who brazenly cheated Celtic in front of 60,000 witnesses on Saturday without a care in the world…

This country is rancid when it comes to football and I’m glad that I longer pay to fund a corrupt product, and I’m sad to say this about the country of my birth, but I’m glad Scotland WON’T be at The World Cup as that’s the way The SFA have made me think these days…

Bloody tragic so it is !
