James Tavernier showed his usual stumbling level of composure when put under pressure in the pre-match media conference at Anfield last night.
It must be something of a shock for fans of Wigan, MK Dons and Shrewsbury to see their former journeyman on the biggest stage in Europe- almost as much of a shock as it is to the great man himself.
Two trophies in seven years have been won in Scotland where it is apparently a two horse race for honours.
A simple question was sent his way in the media conference, surely a big hitter like Tavpen had a few Anfield memories to call on, the reply was cringe-worthy, like when getting questioned by traffic cops over your dangerous driving on Canniesburn Toll.
Just remembering the last time I played at Anfield…
Not with Liverpool, was with another team I can’t tell u about…
wasn’t playing with them, was watching them…
I say watching, I carried one of their bags…
It wasn’t Anfield either, it was A field…
I was in a field. ? https://t.co/z6wFBNCESu

In 2012 Tav was on loan at Sheffield Wednesday (8 appearances) and MK Dons (7 appearances) where he was a team-mate of on loan Celt Paul Slane.
Too old to be involved in an FA Youth Cup tie it seems that he tagged along, helping the kit-man in order to say that he’d been involved at Anfield. Or something like that, it’s hard to remember exactly what you were doing at the age of 20.
With a French referee involved tonight it is unlikely that the Ibrox captain will be adding to his tally of penalties, but he should get on the pitch unlike his mystery match a decade ago. Y’know.
